Sziget Festival

15/08/2024

The Sziget Festival is one of the most popular music festivals in Europe. It is held on the Óbuda Island, an island in Budapest, every August. Already in the nineties, it was a symbol of diversity and peace, calling itself the Island of Freedom.

It was created in 1993 by artists with the slogan "We need a week of togetherness". (Kell egy hét együttlét)

The festival sometimes has "day 0" and sometimes "minus first" or "minus twice" days.

The festival is not without its scandals, with nearby residents fighting to ensure that concerts between 11 pm and 6 am do not exceed the maximum permitted noise level of 55 dB.

Over the years, the festival has hosted world-famous acts such as Prodigy, Brains, Green Day, Ramstein, Boney M, Bloodhoundgang, Oasis, Muse, Nightwish, Shaggy, Sean Paul and Morcheeba, Armin Van Buren, Gorillaz, Major Lazer, Amy Winehouse, David Guetta, Imagine Dragons, Robbie Williams, Avicii, Rihanna, Sia, Ed Sheeran, Pi!nk, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish
