Why do old Budapest trams smell of cannabis?

If you've ever been to Budapest, you've probably smelled the "weedy smell" of the old Ganz trams, and the common Hungarian answer is that they use cannabis oil to lubricate parts of the vehicles.

I'm not entirely sure if that's the reason, but it's certain that you can smell the marijuana smell on the old trams (e.g. 47, 2).

If you haven't had this experience yet, come to Budapest and try them out, because the Budapest Transport Centre is planning to replace the old trams in 2024!
